MotoGP or WSBK?
Motorcycle racing is one of world's most popular sport lines beside soccer or maybe F1 racing. It's perhaps the most thrilling form of sport. It offers high speed-straight line, cornering sped, knee down action, and of course, shocking crashing racer tragedies.
There are so many motorcycle racing events, let's say; motoGP, which races prototype motorcycles manufactured by hugest world manufacturers such as Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki (though Kawasaki doesn't take part in this current motoGP season), and Ducati; WSBK, AMA Superbike, British Superbike, these last three events race mass-produced literbikes, you know, Honda CBR 1000, Yamaha R1, Kawasaki Ninja ZX10, Suzuki GSX 1000, Ducati 1098, and two new European challengers, BMW S1000, and Aprillia RSV4, yet the 600cc motorcycles which also take part.
Seemingly, however, motoGP and WSBK are the two most popular among all. These two events definitely have different requirements, but the most distinctive differences are in the motorcycles racing in those two events. As mentioned above, in motoGP, there are prototype motorcycle from biggest manufacturers. It mens that, the bikes are meant to race in circuit! The bikes are built in purpose of circuit racing, and obviously they are not for sale! We will not ever be able to own one of them. Honda RC212V, Yamaha M1, Suzuki GSV-R, Kawasaki ZXRR, and Ducati Desmosedici GP, are racing-built prototype motorcycle we won't own once! This matter makes motoGP is the most prestigious motorcycle racing event.
While in WSBK (World Superbike) Championship, we will see more familiar motorcycles that we might see often in street, dealer, offered and ridden by youth or any sporting motorcycle maniacs! In the literbike (1000cc) class, there are Honda CBR 1000RR, Yamaha R1, Kawasaki Ninja ZX10R, Suzuki GSX-R1000, Ducati 1098R, BMW S1000 RR, Aprilia RSV4, and KTM 1190 RC8 R in Superstock class. While in the middle size (600cc), there are Honda CBR 600RR, Yamaha R6, Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R, Suzuki GSX-R600 (doesn't take part in current season), and Triumph Dayton 675. All of these bikes are mass-produced, we can own them if we want to.
MotoGP and WSBK have their own fans. People who loved motoGP may not like WSBK, and vice versa, however, it doesn't mean that it's impossible to love both of them. People who love the highest pride may love motoGP more than WSBK, while people who love a category, a class of its own may love WSBK than motoGP.
For me personally, WSBK is much more interesting than motoGP. It is because the bikes are mass-produced, we can own them. I like motoGP also of course, but it's always not as enthusiastic as when I WSBK. I love motorcycle world since I was 14, and well, here I just want to share what I think about these two motorcycle racing events.
