The iconic image of speeding down the open road on a motorcycle would not be complete without the rider in a leather jacket. Not only is leather stylistically preferred by many motorcyclists, but it is also worn for protective reasons. For hardcore bikers, one's leather jacket may come to have as much worth to them as their bike. It takes awhile to really wear into a jacket, and once it becomes soft and flexible it is also more comfortable. For comfort and sentimental reasons, parting with a damaged jacket may be like pulling teeth. Luckily, do it yourself leather jacket repair kits make fixing a cut, tear, or burn easy and affordable.

Liquid leather repair kits are easily found on the Internet or in department stores. They are also hassle-free-if you follow the manufacturer's instructions on the kit. Generally, use a kit in this way. First, locate the different colored liquid adhesives in the kit, which are used to cover up the tear or rip. Mix together the appropriate colors to match your clothing article. A tip is to place a pot holder behind the damaged spot, which will come in handy later.

Next, use the kit's spatula to evenly spread the adhesive on the area. Don't let it get too thick or thin, and keep blending it in until it resembles the leather. After the adhesive is applied, place the appropriate textured grain paper over it. Lastly, use the heat applicator to heat both the adhesive and the paper; the heat is the key to bonding the adhesive to the jacket. The pot holder will help to hold the heat in the area and thus more effectively bond the materials together. Once the process is finished, remember to let your jacket cool off for a few minutes before wearing it. By following these simple steps, you will be well on your way to enjoy the freedom of the road while wearing your favorite leather jacket.
